the best tourist destinations in switzerland

Switzerland is a beautiful and exciting country to visit. The country has a lot to offer in terms of natural beauty and history. There are also many famous tourist destinations in Switzerland that you cannot miss when you come here.

Nendaz

Nendaz is a municipality in the district of Valais in the canton of Valais in Switzerland. It is a popular tourist destination due to its location on Lake Geneva, and proximity to ski resorts.

Nendaz was first mentioned around 1030 AD when it was part of the parish of Saint-Blaise. In 1180, it became part of the parish of Ville-Marie and then remained so until 1803 when it became an independent municipality within canton Sion county (French: canton de Sion).

Zermatt

Zermatt is a small village in the western part of Switzerland, located in the valley of the Upper Rhatikon. It's famous for its mountain scenery and especially for its Matterhorn peak—the highest mountain in all of Europe.

The town itself was founded by three cantons (Switzerland's administrative divisions): Valais, Bern and Grisons. The latter two merged into one after 1871, but they still retain their own identities as official languages spoken within their borders today: German and Italian respectively.

St. Gallen

St. Gallen is a city in northeastern Switzerland, the capital of the canton of St. Gallen and seat of the district of St. Gallen/Soo. It is also called "Altstätten" or Old Town due to its medieval core, which was once part of a larger settlement area that was at one time inhabited by Celtic tribes (see Gallo-Roman culture). The town's official name is still: Altstätten; however, this has rarely been used in popular usage since most people have switched to referring to it as "St gallen".

The population density per square kilometer is relatively high compared with other towns in Switzerland due to its location close to major highway networks such as A3 motorway and A5 autobahn running through nearby towns like Schaffhausen (20 minutes drive) or Zurich Airport (30 minutes drive).

Einsiedeln

Einsiedeln is a municipality and town in the district of Sörenberg in the canton of Schwyz in Switzerland. It is famous for its pilgrimage site, the Benedictine Einsiedeln Abbey, and its brewery.

Einsiedeln's population has fluctuated over the centuries: it was first mentioned as a separate village in 1205 but did not become an independent municipality until 1803. The name means "in shallow water".

Lausanne

Lausanne is a city in the French-speaking part of Switzerland. It is the capital of the canton of Vaud, and it's second most populous city after Zürich.

Lausanne is home to several universities: École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), École nationale des sciences appliquées de Lyon, Université de Genève, Ecole d'ingénieurs de la CITE (Chercheur en Informatique et Technologie du Succès) and Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne Graduate School for Science Education [1].

Lugano

Lugano is a city in southern Switzerland, the third most populous city in Ticino and the seventh largest city in Switzerland. It has an area of 143 km2 (55 sq mi), and its population was 212,040 as of 2016. The urban area around Lugano includes the neighbouring communes of Agno (6 km2 or 2 sq mi), Airolo (6 km2 or 2 sq mi), Ascona (3 km2 or 1.3 sq mi) and Mendrisio (3 km2 or 1.3 sq mi).

Lugano was first mentioned at the end of 12th century AD as Mons Luganensiset for its location on Lake Lugano. It received town privileges in 1445 from emperor Frederick III., then became part of a league with Como, Milan and Locarno called "Confederazione delle cantonate" which lasted until 1798 when Napoleon abolished it altogether through his annexation process known as Treaty of Campoformio

Lauterbrunnen

Lauterbrunnen is a village in the Bernese Oberland region of Switzerland. It is best known as a tourist destination for hiking and skiing. It also serves as a starting point for many hikes into the Bernese Alps, including one of Europe's most famous trails, the Grossglockner High Alpine Road.

The town's main attraction is its namesake lake, which has been carved out by glaciers over thousands of years. The surrounding mountains offer great views of Lauterbrunnen and are ideal for enjoying some time out on the slopes or taking part in other outdoor activities like snowboarding or paragliding.

Geneva

Geneva is a city in the country of Switzerland, located on Lake Geneva. It is the second largest city in Switzerland and known for its international organizations, including the United Nations and Red Cross.
