Natural tourist destinations in Japan

Japan is a country with a rich history and culture, but it's also home to some of the most beautiful natural tourist destinations in the world. Here are some examples:

Shiraito Falls

Shiraito Falls is a waterfall located in the town of Shiraito, Saga Prefecture. The falls are about 2 hours from Okayama city and can be reached by train or bus.

To get there from Okayama City:

  • Take Shinkansen bullet train to Matsuyama station (2 stops). Get off at Shiroishi Station (15 minutes). From Shiroishi Station, take bus number 10 or 20 toward Shiraito Falls (about 30 minutes).

  • From Matsuyama Station, take JR line “Saga Line” toward Sakamoto Station (20 minutes). Get off at Sakamoto Station and walk 50 meters southeast towards a water outlet called Bijutsukan Kaidai-gaen where you will find an old gatekeeper's house with signs pointing you in the right direction. Follow these signs until they end at two staircases leading up into the forest; climb up these stairs until they stop at an open space with several paths branching out around it on both sides--you'll see them all if you look carefully!

Hokkaido

Hokkaido is the largest island of Japan, located in the north of Honshu Island. It has a subarctic climate and is home to many natural tourist destinations. The island has a rich culture and history, including Ainu people who have lived there for thousands of years.

Hokkaido may be known for its ski resorts or spas, but it's also home to some incredible natural tourist destinations that are worth visiting if you're interested in nature or hiking!

Mount Fuji

Mount Fuji is the highest mountain in Japan and one of Japan's most popular tourist destinations. The volcano is located on the border of Shizuoka and Yamanashi Prefectures, with most people traveling to Mount Fuji by car or train from Tokyo or Osaka.

The mountain was sacred to ancient Japanese people because it represented their home country and culture; they believed that if you climbed up Mount Fuji, you would return as a god (or goddess). The first written record about Mount Fuji comes from China during the year 1457 CE when it was called Fang-Shan by Chinese explorer Zheng He who reported seeing "a peak shaped like an umbrella." This name stuck until 1885 when Japanese surveyors discovered that there were actually two peaks: one large at 3776 meters high (12288 feet) above sea level & another smaller at 3871 meters high (12412 feet). Today these two mountains are called Fujisan Shokuhin No Michi ("the way up Mt." FUJISAN") which means "the path leading to heaven".

Jigokudani Yaen Koen

Jigokudani Yaen Koen (literally, "Hell Valley Hot Spring") is a natural geothermal hot spring in Tokushima Prefecture. It's a popular tourist destination and national park in Japan, where you can see snow monkeys at the top of Mount Kirishima.

It's also an excellent place to visit if you want to experience something truly unique!

Yakushima

Yakushima, a volcanic island in Kagoshima Prefecture, is one of Japan's most popular tourist destinations. The local climate and topography make it ideal for hiking and camping. Yakushima also has some unique species of flora and fauna that are only found here (like Jomon Sugi).

Yakushima’s geological history can be traced back more than 2 million years ago when it was part of an ancient continent called Sundaland that broke apart during a period known as the Cretaceous-Tertiary extinction event (65 million years ago).

San'in Coast Geopark

The San'in Coast Geopark is located on the San'in Coast of Japan, which is famous for its beautiful scenery. The coastline is dotted with small islands and rocky outcrops. This area has been designated as one of Japan's Natural Parks since 2003 and has many different species of plants that grow there such as kokoro-zakura (mountain maple).

The coast also features many beaches along with some small hot springs which can be visited during summer months when temperatures are low enough so that you can swim without freezing!

Northern Alps

The Northern Alps are located in the northern part of Honshu. They are known for their beautiful scenery, hiking trails and hot springs. The area is popular with tourists from all over Japan as well as locals who come to enjoy nature at its best.
